An Intimate Evening Dedicated to Armagnac
As Fest’Armagnac approaches, Hôtel Burdigala is offering a rare experience: a confidential tasting held in its private screening room, entirely devoted to one of France’s oldest spirits.
Ahead of the March 7th event at the Grande Poste de Bordeaux, this masterclass provides a privileged opportunity to explore the world of Armagnac in an elegant and refined setting. The limited number of guests encourages meaningful exchanges, open discussion, and a deeper understanding of the art of tasting.
Maison Dartigalongue: Nearly Two Centuries of Tradition
This tasting shines a spotlight on Maison Dartigalongue, a family-owned house founded in 1838 in Nogaro. For almost 200 years, the family has upheld an artisanal savoir-faire passed down from generation to generation, ageing and blending Armagnacs renowned for their finesse and complexity.
Four emblematic blends will be presented: Réserve, XO, Héritage and the 1992 vintage. Each showcases a distinct expression of ageing, blending expertise, and the aromatic richness characteristic of Armagnac.
Food & Armagnac Pairings Designed to Reveal Every Nuance
The evening will begin with an Armagnac-based cocktail created by Vincent, the hotel’s Head Bartender, elegantly introducing the aromatic notes of the tasting experience.
Each expression will then be paired with a carefully crafted culinary creation:
- Réserve: pan-seared foie gras escalope, pears
- XO: sirloin steak, smoked jus, carrots
- Héritage: scallops, bard cream, parsnip mousseline, finger lime
- 1992: flambéed banana “bonbon style,” gavotte biscuit, liquid caramel
These pairings have been designed to highlight the depth, structure, and complexity of each Armagnac.
A Tasting Guided by Specialists
The masterclass will be led by Benoît Hillion, Director of Armagnacs Dartigalongue, alongside Michaël Illouz, founder of Fest’Armagnac and Armagnac Educator.
Their insights will offer a deeper understanding of production methods, the impact of cask ageing, the differences between blends and vintages, and the fundamentals of expert tasting. In this confidential format, each participant will have the opportunity to engage freely and expand their knowledge.
